Vulnerable supply chains

Final report released

What we’ve been asked to look at The Australian Government asked the Productivity Commission to examine the nature and source of risks to global supply chains. The Commission developed a framework for identifying supply chains that are vulnerable to disruption, identify imports of goods that might be vulnerable, and identify possible strategies to manage supply chains risks.

Submissions and comments

Submissions and comments were invited to inform the final report. The interim report, which was released in late March, focussed on supply chain vulnerabilities from Australia's role as an importer. Participants were invited to examine the report and comment on it by written submission by 30 April 2021. The Commission also examined supply chain vulnerabilities from Australia's role as an exporter. The Commission was particularly interested in understanding: how firms manage and respond to disruptions in export market conditions and access the impact that these disruptions can have, including in regional areas. Comments and submissions on these issues were also invited by 30 April 2021.
